Ever feel like LinkedIn is turning into a competition for who can post the most flashy stuff? Some folks are out here chasing fame, sharing content that’s more about self-promotion than substance, and occasionally taking a detour into bringing others down. But here’s the real secret: the path to a Million views isn’t about chasing big numbers or trying to be a LinkedIn celebrity. It’s about genuinely Adding Value and being a Force for Good. Want to know how I went from struggling for 100 views a week to hitting a Million? By not thinking about getting a Million views! Just focus on helping out, not on becoming famous!
My Journey
When I started, it was a wild rollercoaster of trial and error. I was all about daily posts, chatting with my network, and most importantly, being helpful. I wasn’t in it for fame; I wanted to make a real impact. I shared HR insights, and helped people in their professional development. I replied to everyone to ensure they can crack their interview right. I connected with HR fraternity to be updated. I made videos and spent thousands of hours in helping people for free
Fast forward a decade, and here I am, with 170,000 followers and a million views per week.
Sure, people laughed at first, cracked jokes, and probably had a few snickers behind my back. But guess what? Those same folks will be sliding into your DMs for job leads and networking once you’re the one everyone’s talking about. Keep your eyes on the prize and ignore the haters.
Brands will fly in for endorsements, companies want to partner up, and even CSR organisations are reaching out to make a difference. But remember, you wont get this unless you really want to help people. Stick to that mission, and you’ll get to where you want to be even faster.
Forget about trying to be famous. Instead, use your network to uplift others. This mindset is what really boosts engagement and builds a loyal crowd.
If i had to break it down to concrete advice, and what helped me reach this milestone, it would be the following:
- Daily Posting
- Consistency is Key: Just like brushing your teeth, posting every day is a must. Regular updates keep you fresh in your followers’ minds. Plus, it’s less annoying than flossing.
- Content Variety: Keep things interesting! Mix up articles, images, videos, and polls. Variety keeps your audience on their toes and engaged.
2. Relevant Content
- Know Your Audience: Understand what your followers care about and how you can improve their lives. If they’re into cat memes, LinkedIn might not be their playground—unless you’re posting about workplace cats. Use LinkedIn Analytics to see what hits home.
- Trending Topics: Be the one who’s in the know. Sharing timely, relevant content makes you the right thought leader.
3. Add Value, Not Fame
- Focus on Value: Skip the fame chase. Share insights, tips, and helpful info. Be the superhero of your network.
- Engagement over Likes: Real conversations beat flashy likes every time. Meaningful interactions are where the real magic happens.
4. Expanding Your Network
- Connect Strategically: Send connection requests to folks in your industry or related fields. Think of it as catching Pokémon—collect the good ones.
- Engage with Others: Comment and share posts from your network. It’s like giving high-fives in the LinkedIn hallways.
5. Thought Leadership
- Share Your Expertise: Become a thought leader by regularly sharing your knowledge. Write long posts and articles that dive deep into your passions.
- Webinars and Live Sessions: Host webinars or LinkedIn Live sessions. It’s like your own personal TED Talk.
6. Share Failures and Successes
- Be Authentic: People love authenticity. Share your wins and losses. It makes you relatable—like a real person, not a robot.
- Lessons Learned: Talk about the lessons you’ve learned. It’s inspiring and might even save someone from a facepalm moment.
7. Uplift Others
- Support and Encourage: Share others’ content, celebrate their wins, and offer support. This builds a positive community and encourages others to do the same.
- Mentorship and Advice: Offer advice and mentorship. It helps others and establishes you as a leader.
8. Optimise Your Profile
- Complete and Compelling: Make sure your profile is top-notch with a great photo, a catchy headline, and a killer summary. It’s like making your LinkedIn profile swipe-right worthy.
- Highlight Key Skills: Showcase your skills and experiences to attract the right opportunities.
- Engage with Comments
9. Visual Content
- High-Quality Media: Use sharp, high-quality images and videos. Visuals attract more attention than plain text. We’re all magpies for shiny things, after all.
- Storytelling: Use visuals to tell a story or deliver a message. It makes your content more memorable and impactful.
10. Analytics
- Data-Driven Insights: Keep an eye on LinkedIn Analytics to see what’s working. Adjust your strategy based on the data. Be the Sherlock Holmes of LinkedIn.
- Track Performance: Monitor your post metrics and spot trends. It helps in fine-tuning your content strategy.
